Thursday July 12

Today was a very wonderful day. I got to do a tour of the campus radio station, as I was able to sit down and meet with the head of the station. We were talking about possibly doing an internship  this year as a sports broadcaster for the baseball and football seasons. I really hope it works out, as it would be a great opportunity for me to get an experience in this career and put it on my resume for colleges and future jobs.

Today was an amazing day with an experience of a lifetime. As a class we got an invitation to visit the NY times building and got an exclusive opportunity to listen to an experienced journalist on his job and what he does. He also told us his story on how he started and the opportunities that came to him and why, and how we can use his experience as a way to try as hard as he did to get all the internships as possible to show his work to many forms of people and for his job interviews. We also got to visit Times Square and walk around the city.

Today in class were chose a topic of interest from options of school news. I chose this years upcoming football season. My job is to write a report on the season through sources. To do this I interviewed the head football coach, and the Special teams Coordinator. Both men were very nice and accepting of what I had to ask of them and both gave me very thought out answers and were very respectful during the entire process. I ended up learning a lot of the team and the expectations of them for this year and upcoming years, and most importantly what both coaches expect on and off the field of all the talented athletes on the roster. Later that night I saw a movie in the Hollywood commons called “A quiet Place”. At first I was not all that impressed as I did not understand what was going on due to the lack of verbal communication. However, as the movie got along it got very good, as the plot line was extremely intense and definitely hit you at times and made you feel for the characters ...

Day 1: Today was my first day of summer class at the humanities building on the LIU campus. We started out by learning about what it is to be a journalist and all the opportunities that can come along. Our first assignment was to interview a classmate and write a profile on them. It was a very cool experience as it was my first ever thorough interview with someone I have never met before. I learned a lot of my partner through talking to her and a friend, which definitely helped in my writing of the profile. Later on in the day, we got a very interesting lecture of photojournalism from a professional photographer who definitely taught me about the importance of making clear and thorough images to use for stories. After class I finally realized how big the campus actually was. From about  3-6 o'clock  I walked all around including getting lost on the way to the library and to Riggs park and going back and forth from the dorms to the hillside community center a couple times....
